We are sad to report that long-time GLIIFCA member Phil Marder passed away on Saturday, January 30th, 2010 after a 14 month battle with brain cancer.
Phil graduated cum laude from The Ohio State University in Columbus and obtained a masters degree in microbiology. In 1973 he began his career as a research scientist at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis where he worked for 39 years. During his career at Lilly Phil championed the use of flow cytometry as a key technology in the field drug activity biomarkers. He was an early adopter of multiplex bead technology and was instrumental in its application in the pharmaceutical sciences.
He was an active member of ISAC and will be missed by the cytometry community. Phil is survived by his wife Patty and his three children. His family requests a donation to the "Voices against Brain Cancer" charity in lieu of flowers.
